BOFA SITE REVAMP

Hard to believe it’s been close to 5 years since bofagroup.com was designed. Keeping busy with other people’s projects does not leave me with much time to work on my own stuff.
So I’ve given the site and blog a slight revamp and finally have the online store up and running. More products to be added in the next couple of weeks.
For now, let me know what you think?

Thanks again to everyone who has visited the site, got some work from me or had a positive word to say regarding my work. It’s all very appreciated!

FAN EXPO 2013

Just wanted to give a huge thanks to Dave Alexander, Paige Reynolds, Gary Pullin, Angus Buyers and everyone who came out to the “If they came from within: an alternative history of Canadian Horror” panel that was held at this year’s Fan Expo / Festival of Fear event.
Had a great response to my poster which I was very surprised with and really appreciated the positive feedback. It was not an easy task doing a poster for THE Brandon Cronenberg, and being along side such talented artists as mentioned above was a definite honor!

IF THEY CAME FROM WITHIN

I was honoured to be asked by Rue Morgue’s Editor, Dave Alexander, if I would like to participate in his horror movie poster show called “If They Came From Within: An Alternative History of Canadian Horror Movies” alongside some great artists such as Gary Pullin, Justin Erickson, Jason Edmiston, Paige Reynolds, Rupert Bottenberg and many more amazing artists.

The idea was to take a movie synopsis written by a director for a movie that had not been made yet and create the poster that would accompany that movie. I was fortunate enough to get the amazing Brandon Cronenberg’s (Antiviral) synopsis for his 1968 movie called “Autohorror Vacuum” and the poster below is what I produced.

The show is on for another whole month at the Steam Whistle Brewery in Toronto and I encourage you to go check it out. You can even have yourself a beer while viewing the art.

HOMESICK SAN DIEGO

I’ve been a fan of The Gypsy Gentleman series since the first one came out, and I am very stoked to see their latest issue featuring a place that, although I am from South Africa, I consider to be home…San Diego. I used to live just up the road from Black Panther Tattoo, got my hair cut at Two Roses right next to Chicano Park and Rob Benavides did some artwork for a company I used to work for. Oh, and the burgers at The Station were amazing, haha.

The brilliant folks at 21 Tanks asked me design the cover of their new e-book entitled “Do Ideas” a while back, and it was finally launched on Friday.

Do yourself a favor and download this book. Visit the link HERE. It will cost you nothing (that’s right, it’s free) and it will be one of the best reads you’ve ever had.

If you’ve ever had an idea or a thought to do something and just never get around to doing it, then give this book a read and it might just be the kickstart you needed. A truly inspiring book with some great words of advice and wisdom from people that are involved with entertainment, banking, media, engineering and all walks of life.

WAKE THE DEAD

I was asked a while back if I would contribute some art for an exhibition/auction to help raise money for Habitat For Humanity, and of course, why would I say no.

So the morning after watching one of Canada’s best hardcore bands, Comeback Kid, I sat down and let the pencil do what it does best. With no real idea in mind, I knew I wanted to do something with a coffin and a rooster, and before long it all started to come together, and the lyrics from one of Comeback Kid’s songs “Wake The Silence, Wake The Dead” just seemed to fit perfectly with the subject matter and so a couple of days later my ode to Comeback Kid was finished.

I am really happy with the outcome and this, along with a new “Tiki Lounge” pinstriped original, will be on show at the exhibition which takes place this Thursday evening, the 3rd of May at The Press Club in Toronto. Both pieces will be on auction alongside some really brilliant artists from Toronto and the rest of the world.

MY ART SMELLS OF WHISKY

There’s something about the look and feel of a letter-pressed poster that stands out over a digitally printed one.
And I’m sure the fact that you can add a little whisky to the ink helps too.
Here’s to the end of another week and a couple of whiskys at the bar tonight!
